Have you ever sat down to watch a movie with your favorite snack, when you realize that the snack is gone and you have no memory of enjoying it? It happens all the time. So not only did you likely eat something that maybe wasn't the best thing for your body, but you didn't take the time to enjoy it.

Mindful eating is about using mindfulness, or the act of being present in the moment, to pay full attention to your experiences, cravings, and physical cues when eating. Here are a few tips to get you started:

1-Let the experience begin at the supermarket. Be present when you are selecting your food, and begin to experience what the prepared meal will taste, smell, and look like.

2-Enjoy the process of preparing meals. Food nourishes our vehicles. Preparing our food should be a pleasure. Not a chore.

3-Engage all of your senses while eating. Notice the way the food looks, smells, and tastes.

4-Eat slowly. you have heard this before. Listen to your body's signal that it is full. Your mother may have taught you to clean your plate, but is that necessary?

5-Appreciate what the food had to go through to get to you, from the growers to the logistics companies, to the workers in your favorite market.

By changing the way we think about the food we eat, we can make eating a more positive experience and make better food choices.
