Feeling the familiar tug of guilt when you finally allow yourself to rest?
You're not alone.
In our hustle 🏃 culture, taking a break can sometimes feel like a luxury, even when it's a necessity.
But what if I told you a powerful tool to combat that guilt is always with you? Your breath. Here's how I've been using mindful breathing to shift my perspective on rest 🛏️ :
Acknowledging the Feeling: The first step is to simply notice the guilt without judgment. Take a deep inhale and exhale, acknowledging the emotion.
Connecting to the Present: Guilt often stems from dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. Focusing on the sensation of your breath anchors you in the present moment, reminding you that right now, rest is what you need.
Body Scan with Breath: As you inhale and exhale, gently scan your body. Notice any tension or areas that feel tired. This physical awareness reinforces the need for rest.
Affirmations with Exhale: With each exhale, mentally release the guilt. You can even pair it with a silent affirmation like "I deserve this rest," or "Rest fuels my productivity."
Slow, Deep Breaths: Even a few minutes of slow, deep diaphragmatic breathing can calm your nervous system and quiet the inner critic.
Rest isn't a sign of weakness; it's an essential part of sustainability and high performance. 💪 By consciously using our breath, we can gently dismantle the guilt and embrace the rejuvenation we truly need.
