Simple tips to navigate adulting.

Studies have shown that putting our feelings into words can help us manage them, as they happen. If we ignore them they gain power. It is said that feelings, not thoughts, are our guide to living and we ignore them at our peril. Ignoring them allows them to grow to the point that the slightest aggravation can set us off and be responsible for us unnecessarily flying off the handle. If we pause to name our emotions helps us move from the fight-or-flight and physiological responses we need in true emergencies.

Our emotions can be an obstacle to seeing plainly what we are experiencing. After labeling our emotions. Using breathwork can bring us back to a place of relative calm and allow us to assess the situation. Simply breathing deeply, allowing the exhale to be longer than the inhale, triggers the parasympathetic nervous system which counters the flood of hormones, rise in blood pressure, clenching of muscles, and the other physical aspects of stress.


Remember to be kind to yourself when your emotions are ruling and use identifying your feelings and your breath as tools to see the situation for what it really is.
